Money truly is the root of all evil. Or at the very least greed is the root of most evils…
Money is the reason we go to war. War profiteering is not just a buzz word. Halliburton is making billions in Iraq, all sanctioned by Vice President Cheney. He just happens to be a former CEO of the company, with a pretty fat dividend from his stock holdings in the company. Halliburton is building most of the military installations, engineering the “reconstruction” of Iraq. Oh, and they happen to deal in oil as well as construction. See a connection? Follow the money in the Iraq! (and elsewhere)
Money is the reason we treat diseases instead of cure diseases. When was the last time you heard of an actual cure for anything? (no, Rogaine is not a cure for balding) Their profits are gigantic, and the CEOs make shit-tons of money. Often the drugs are given have side effects that require another drug, which is more money for the companies. Pharmaceutical companies are mega-businesses, living off the elderly and ill. Why would they bother to cure anything? The treating of the disease keeps them in business.
Money is the reason we still have gas-guzzling vehicles – 25, 30, 35 mpg is not a good gas mileage! Electric vehicles should be here now, can be here now, but the car and oil companies can make so much money on gas vehicles. They have all their dirty (big) hands in the government, we all know it (just check out the link below), but we continue to support these politicians.
Money is reason we have the political system that supports all these companies and common practices. Follow the money in the political system!
My answer to this is simple: follow the money.
What can we do? If the 2008 election has taught us anything, it’s YES we can have a vote that matters. But more importantly, it is our duty to humanity as a whole to revolt against any tyrannical government – especially one that supports policies that destroy our future generations chances for life. The Founders would have expected no less from us.
Pay attention to your choices, they are the only things you truly control. Choose to spend your money like you are voting with it (see previous post). Choose to live simply, efficiently. Choose to support steady-state, sustainable ideals, actions, and policies. Everything you do makes an impact (action and reaction) – make that impact a positive one. It is the only thing that will remain of you, is what you did – not what you said, not what you thought.
Your actions, both big and small, will be resonant through history. Your actions are the only thing you have power over, make your grandchildren proud of your actions.
